    TOP SPORTING EVENTS: JULY 20-25

ABC has a new version of “Lost” – featuring the volleyball teams that crash into Santa Barbara’s Todd Rogers and Phil Dalhausser on the beach. In five years together, Rogers and Dalhausser have captured 54 professional tournament titles, moving past Michael Dodd/Tim Hovland for third on the all-time list. They won the Hermosa Beach Open for the fifth consecutive year last weekend. Next they’ll be gunning for the AVP Long Beach title, the men’s final to be televised on ABC at 1 p.m. Sunday (July 25).

At their present pace, the defending Olympic champions will approach the 75 wins collected by Karch Kiraly/Kent Steffes, No. 2 on the all-time list, at about the time of the 2012 London Olympics. Sinjin Smith and Randy Stoklos appear safely at the top of the heap with 114 titles.

In other action this week, the Santa Barbara Foresters hit the road for three games against the San Luis Obispo Rattlers starting tonight (Tuesday), and they will host a three-game series against the San Luis Obispo Blues at UCSB. The club’s games can be heard live on the radio at 1490 AM.

Team Platinum Performance has been dominating California’s mountain biking series like Rogers/Dalhausser on the beach. The Santa Barbara team clinched its sixth consecutive state title at Big Bear Lake last weekend. Bobby Langin Sr. (Category 1 50-54) and Reny Takeda (Boys 11-12) claimed individual championships.

The Carpinteria Boys & Girls Club is hosting an open co-ed softball tournament this weekend (July 24-25) to benefit its tackle football program. The entry fee is $250. Call 684-1658 or e-mail carpathletics@unitedbg.org.
