Starshine Roshell
Starshine Roshell has been an Independent columnist since 2006, when she ran shrieking from that other local paper.
Named for a song in the rock musical "Hair," Starshine grew up in Los Angeles recording studios and on soap opera sets, where her parents worked. She wrote for The Hollywood Reporter before moving to Santa Barbara as a news reporter and rock music critic.
Voted Best Columnist by Indy readers in 2009, her columns reveal the absurd truths about sex, family and culture. Syndicated to newspapers and websites throughout the country, the columns are collected in her book, "Keep Your Skirt On."
Starshine writes for Westways magazine, hosts the radio segment "Write There With Ya" on Progressive Talk 1490 and teaches journalism at Santa Barbara City College and UCSB Extension.
